With only about 15,000 inhabitants, Eisenstadt is the smallest provincial capital in Austria.
But the Esterházy family and the composer Joseph Haydn shaped the city and gave it a unique identity!
Meeting point
Our meeting point is in front of the District Hall Eisenstadt. If you come by car, the Osterwiese car park is located here (daily rate 3 Euros).

After the tour, you can still visit Europaplatz. This is also the seat of the Burgenland provincial government!
Congress Centre, Main Street
We walk past the congress centre and directly into the main street, the historic centre of Eisenstadt. Admire the numerous baroque houses and enjoy the well-kept townscape with its Pannonian flair.

St. Martin´s Cathedral, Esterházy Palace
After a detour to St. Martin's Cathedral, we arrive at the impressive Esterházy Palace. You will learn about the building history of both buildings, which are the origin of Eisenstadt.

Mountain Church

Jewish Quarter, Palace Park
From the Bergkirche we head towards the Jewish quarter. You will learn when and why Jewish communities were established in Burgenland. Afterwards, our tour leads through the beautifully maintained palace park with its ingenious water system!

The Jewish Museum in Eisenstadt houses, among other things, the only consecrated synagogue in Burgenland!

Franciscan Church, Haydn House
At the end of the castle park you will see a remnant of the old city wall including the powder tower. Then we pass the Franciscan Church and the Haydn House before returning to our starting point.
